"Summers Off"

Sooooooo, what are your plans for this summer?
Will you be dancing?
Will you be taking classes in the city?
I was always a big fan of "summers off" both as a child as well as a Mom of young athletes.
As a young girl, I grew up on a farm in the south. I was lucky enough to have what seemed like an endless supply of long, sweet summer days to run, climb, swim and ride.

Sooooooo, what are your plans for this summer?

Will you be dancing?

Will you be taking classes in the city?

Will you go to Rockettes Summer Camp?

Will you be attending a summer intensive?

Will you be attending your studio's summer program?

I was always a big fan of "summers off" both as a child as well as a Mom of young athletes.

As a young girl, I grew up on a farm in the south. I was lucky enough to have what seemed like an endless supply of long, sweet summer days to run, climb, swim and ride. Summer days seemed to filled with creativity, expressiveness, adventure and a newfound bravery. We were up at the crack of dawn and enjoyed every bit of the daylight hours. Evenings were equally awesome! We chased fireflies, enjoyed sleepovers with friends and late night car rides home from many a family adventure! Summer always seemed to bring with it a newly discovered sense of freedom.

I also have very fond summertime memories of my weeks spent away at cheer camp and my weeks of 2-a-day training for dance team. The bonds that are created while "dorming" with your girlfriends away from home for a "whole week" are so unique. I consider myself lucky to have experienced that as a young girl. The relationships I formed while pushing myself to the very end of my physical ability alongside my team mates during hell week is also something I consider a blessing.

As a Mom, I enjoyed our "summers off" as a family, tremendously! The kids all had their week of camp, if they chose to go to one. But the rest of the summer was spent taking advantage of the wonderful East Coast that we are fortunate enough to be surrounded by! We all worked hard all school year. The kids at their schoolwork. My husband and I at our chosen careers, businesses and running our household. When summer rolled around (never quite early enough if you were to ask me) it was time to play! We surrounded ourselves with sun, water, family, friends and adventure! Boy, oh boy, do we have some magical memories (not to mention some great pictures!) to carry with us from all of those "summers off".

Nowadays, as a Mom of grown kids and as a Grandma, my "summers off" have only changed slightly. Joel and I still surround ourselves with sun, water, family, friends and adventure. But we now have the gift of watching our grown children "come home" for some summertime fun! The joy we get from witnessing them enjoying each other and each others families is something words can not express... it's truly, joyously magical! Additionally, we get to not only see summertime through the bright, sparkly eyes of our Grandbabies, we also get to watch our children create lots of summertime family memories of their own!

I hope you all get to enjoy all the things that bring you joy this summer!
